Matthew Smart is a trial attorney at Coven Law Group. Matthew has worked tirelessly to assist law enforcement personnel, correctional officers, public works employees, airline employees, and many other injured workers and persons.
Matthew is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science, and he received his law degree from the John Marshall Law School.
Since joining Coven Law Group, Matthew has tried numerous cases at the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission, including a trial award of lifetime workers’ compensation benefits for an injured municipal employee with a permanent disability.
Matthew has won numerous trials for workers whose employers have denied necessary joint replacement surgeries, including winning the subsequent appeals of some of those victories. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, Matthew became the first attorney in the State of Illinois to take a case to trial for a factory worker who contracted COVID-19 on the job.
Matthew has achieved many other substantial results for his clients, including $1.26 million for the victim of a motor vehicle accident, $1.25 million for the victim of a motor vehicle accident, $384,000.00 for an injured worker who required neck surgery, and $220,000.00 for an injured worker who sustained partially severed fingers.
